In a significant milestone for Sri Lanka’s renewable energy sector, Hayleys Solar, the country’s leading solar solutions provider, has successfully completed a groundbreaking solar energy project for the branch office of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Wattala.

The initiative, which features a 2MWh battery backup powered by a solar photovoltaic system, is the largest of its kind in Sri Lanka and ensures uninterrupted power for up to three days.
This pioneering collaboration underscores Hayleys Solar’s commitment to delivering innovative, sustainable energy solutions that redefine self-sufficiency. The project utilised a solar-panelled car park roof, maximising solar capacity without requiring additional land use. Additionally, the design preserved the property’s original architecture while effectively addressing the net-plus energy challenge, optimising costs and improving efficiency.

Hayleys Solar Executive Director and CEO Roshane Perera expressed pride in the initiative stating, “We are immensely proud to have delivered Sri Lanka’s largest solar-powered battery backup system, setting a new benchmark for renewable energy innovation. This project is a testament to Hayleys Solar’s expertise in implementing large-scale solutions that support long-term sustainability. We believe this initiative will inspire further advancements in Sri Lanka’s green energy landscape.”

Hayleys Fentons Limited Managing Director Hasith Prematillake added, “This project is a shining example of forward-thinking energy management. The branch office of Jehovah’s Witnesses has demonstrated remarkable commitment to sustainability and we are proud to have provided them with a resilient, clean energy solution that others can learn from.” Jehovah’s Witnesses Sri Lanka National Spokesman David Van Eyck commenting on the project’s impact said, “This milestone underscores our commitment to sustainable practices. As we continue our extensive community services, we are pleased to do so with facilities powered by environmentally friendly systems.”

This solar energy initiative not only highlights Hayleys Solar’s leadership in renewable energy transformation but also sets a new standard for energy-efficient infrastructure in Sri Lanka. As the nation advances toward a more sustainable future, projects like this pave the way for further innovation and expansion in clean energy solutions.

Significant Electricity Savings of 31% in Monthly Electricity Bill

The University of Peradeniya’s Engineering and Arts faculties are now powered by a 1.2 MWp solar installation, completed and installed by Hayleys Solar, the renewable energy arm of Hayleys Fentons Limited.

The project marks a significant milestone in the university’s sustainability journey. With additional  solar installations  underway at the Medical Faculty, the university’s total solar capacity is set to reach 1.5 MWp upon completion. The system has so far successfully reduced the university’s average monthly electricity expenditure by 31%.

Professor Lilantha Samaranayake, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Peradeniya, stated, “This collaboration with Hayleys Solar represents a major step in reducing our environmental impact. It demonstrates that renewable energy is a viable solution for large institutions like ours. With the upcoming expansions, we look forward to further strengthening our commitment to a greener, more energy-efficient campus.”

The solar installation plays a pivotal role in advancing the university’s environmental objectives, including a substantial projected reduction in carbon emissions of 1.5 CO2 tonnes, making a meaningful contribution to carbon footprint minimization, aligning with global sustainability targets.

Hasith Prematillake, Managing Director of Hayleys Fentons Limited, commented: “We are honoured to be part of the University of Peradeniya’s journey towards greater sustainability. This project exemplifies our commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions that not only drive cost savings but also contribute to the global fight against climate change. As we continue to support institutions like the University of Peradeniya, we reaffirm our dedication to creating a greener, more sustainable future for all.”

Roshane Perera, CEO and Director of Hayleys Solar,  added: “We are proud to partner with the University of Peradeniya on this transformative project. Despite challenges posed by adverse weather conditions, our team worked diligently to ensure the project’s timely completion. This installation is a prime example of how renewable energy can provide both economic and environmental benefits for large Educational institutions, and we look forward to its continued positive impact for generations to come.”

Hayleys Solar, the renewable energy arm of Hayleys Fentons Limited, has successfully completed a 300.31kW solar installation at the CIC Ekala Sales Office and Warehouse Complex within an impressive timeframe.

The newly installed solar system is projected to reduce carbon emissions by 308 tonnes annually, aligning with CIC‘s sustainability goals to improve its environmental footprint.

“We are proud to support CIC in taking this important step towards renewable energy,” said Hasith Prematillake, Managing Director of Hayleys Fentons Limited. “Our team worked diligently to ensure the project was completed swiftly and accurately. We deeply appreciate the CIC team for their unwavering support throughout the process.”

Roshane Perera, Chief Executive Officer of Hayleys Solar, added, “This partnership has been crucial in achieving our shared goals. With this successful installation, we continue to set new benchmarks for project execution speed and precision, further solidifying our leadership in the solar industry.”

As to the demand for renewable energy solutions continues to soar, Hayleys Solar remains well-positioned to provide reliable, efficient solar installations powering Sri Lanka’s transition to a greener future. The successful completion of this project further establishes Hayleys Solar as the nation’s leading solar provider.
